{"id":16928,"date":"2018-02-22T15:31:49","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T14:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/visite\/val-d-ayas\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T21:04:48","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T19:04:48","slug":"val-dayas-col-de-joux","status":"publish","type":"visite","link":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/en\/tours\/val-dayas-col-de-joux\/","title":{"rendered":"Val d&#8217;Ayas &#8211; Col de Joux"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Visit of the Val d&#8217;Ayas<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The Val d&#8217;Ayas or Ayas Valley<\/strong> is one of the most beautiful side valleys of the region, it is rich of historical evidences thanks to the thriving trades during Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss a visit to the medieval <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/en\/visite\/graines-castle\/\"><strong>castle of Graines<\/strong><\/a> one of the most ancient castle of the Aosta Valley built on a promontory in the village of Brusson.<\/p>\n<p>This district covers <strong>numerous villages<\/strong>, each with its own scenery and architectural features. And where the old houses, the traditional raccards, have been wisely preserved. These buildings were once exclusively used to store cereal and were designed to prevent humidity from forming and rodents from entering.<\/p>\n<h2>Antagnod<\/h2>\n<p>Antagnod is a hamlet situated in a beautiful, panoramic position enjoys a magnificent view over the Monte Rosa massif.<\/p>\n<p>To see the <strong>Parish Church of San Martino<\/strong>, rebuilt in 1839 on a previous construction from the end of the 15th century, has a particular bell-tower. The church has an impressive main altar built from carved wood that is painted and gilded and enriched with numerous statues, which has for some time been the most impressive Baroque altar in the valley.<\/p>\n<p>The historic center of Antagnod hosts some typical structures, including the Maison Fournier where are produced the <strong>hand-made Sabots<\/strong>, typical wooden clogs used by the valley inhabitants all year round due to their exceptional ability to keep your feet warm and dry. A permanent exhibition of traditional handcrafts is located at the Maison Fournier, an historical building near the church of Antagnod.<\/p>\n<h2>Col de Joux<\/h2>\n<p>Col de Joux (1,640 m) is a wooded mountain pass connecting Brusson with the municipality of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/en\/visite\/saint-vincent\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Saint-Vincent<\/strong><\/a>. The route passes through charming hamlets and enchanting forests, while its panoramic Belvedere offers magnificent view over the Monte Bianco massif.<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, visitors will encounter several places of historical interest, including the beautiful <strong>Moron Chapel<\/strong>, dedicated to Saint Maurice and one of the oldest religious buildings in the region; the legendary <strong>Napoleon Fountain<\/strong>; and the Amay Partisans\u2019 Memorial Chapel, where Primo Levi was arrested in 1943.<\/p>\n<p>The pass is also reached by the <strong>Ru Courtoud<\/strong>, the longest irrigation channel in the Aosta Valley.
