Great Saint Bernard\u00a0Pass<\/strong> is situated at 2473 meters a. s. l. and links the Aosta Valley to Switzerland.<\/p>\n Since Roman times, when the temple dedicated to Jupiter Poeninus was built on the Great Saint Bernard Pass, the valley has constituted an important access route through the Alps.<\/p>\n In 1045 Saint Bernard\u00a0built a hospice<\/strong> managed by a congregation of canons regular on the pass for the purpose of recovering pilgrims, who were following Via Francigena<\/strong>. The hospice looks to a little lake dominated by the saint\u2019s statue. During summer is also possible to visit the church, the treasure museum and large dogs breeding.<\/p>\n Heading down the valley we can taste the famous Jambon de Bosses<\/strong>, produced in Saint Rh\u00e9my-en-Bosses and visit Etroubles<\/a>, a beautiful village transformed into a museum with many artworks. I suggest to visit also the Cooperative and Visitor Centre Fontina in Valpelline that produces the famous Fontina cheese<\/strong>, the most famous PDO product in the whole Aosta Valley.<\/p>\n
\nDuring winter the Great Saint Bernard Valley has also a colored Carnaval.<\/p>\n
