{"id":17006,"date":"2018-02-21T10:34:43","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T09:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/visite\/colle-del-gran-san-bernardo\/"},"modified":"2021-04-20T12:53:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T10:53:06","slug":"great-saint-bernard-pass","status":"publish","type":"visite","link":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticaosta.it\/en\/visite\/great-saint-bernard-pass\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Saint Bernard Pass"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Guided Tour of the Great Saint Bernard Pass<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Great Saint Bernard\u00a0Pass<\/strong> is situated at 2473 meters a. s. l. and links the Aosta Valley to Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>Since Roman times, when the temple dedicated to Jupiter Poeninus was built on the Great Saint Bernard Pass, the valley has constituted an important access route through the Alps.<\/p>\n<p>In 1045 Saint Bernard\u00a0built a <strong>hospice<\/strong> managed by a congregation of canons regular on the pass for the purpose of recovering pilgrims, who were following <strong>Via Francigena<\/strong>. The hospice looks to a little lake dominated by the saint\u2019s statue.
