Visit of Cogne
Passed the village of Aymavilles and the beautiful castle of Aymavilles surrounded by colorful vineyards there is the Cogne Valley.
Cogne is a wonderful village situated 1500 m of altitude in the middle of Gran Paradiso National Park. The village is visited by many hikers, and indeed from Valnontey there are many paths going to Gran Paradiso mountain. People loving nature can also take a walk to the beautiful Lillaz Falls, or visit the Paradisia botanical garden.
Really characteristic is the Cogne historical centre, where handicrafts activities, such as the famous “tombolo” (the Cogne lace) are still practised. Cogne has also many historical monuments, including the parish church of Saint’ Orso, the bishop’s tower and the iron fountain and is also famous for the artisanal production of lace and its gastronomical heritage.
Not far from the village centre, in the mining village, is located the visitors centre of the Gran Paradiso National Park which is focused on the relationship between mankind and the environment.
The guided tour of Cogne can be linked to the visit of Pont d’Aël aqueduct-bridge, a magnificent Roman monument with a double function of bridge and aqueduct.
