Cathedral Treasure Museum

Guided Tour of the Cathedral Treasure Museum

The Cathedral Treasure Museum of Aosta is located in ambulatory of the church and provides a significant overview of Aosta Valley art between the 13th and 18th centuries. The exhibition combines pieces from the Cathedral’s rich treasure with works of art coming from different local parishes.

The museum houses some masterpieces of ancient goldsmiths, sculptures, paintings and a collection of marble sepulchral sculptures, but also some15th-century productions of the local artist Stefano Mossettaz.

Among the important Gothic sculptures are a wooden frontal sculpted in the 13th-14th century.

The rich gold collection consists of some precious silver relic busts and the large relic chest of Saint Grato, which was created by the Flemish sculptor Jean de Malines.

The most precious examples include a chimney from the Roman used as a cope buckle and the diptych of Honorius, testimony of late Roman art.
