About the Issogne Castle

Issogne Castle is a luxurious Renaissance residence which belonged to the Challant’s family from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
The castle was built by Ibleto of Challant, but was radically transformed by Prior Giorgio of Challant. Entering the castle, we are welcomed by the famous frescoed “lunettes”, scenes from everyday life, and by the famous wrought-iron pomegranate fountain, a wedding gift to Filiberto of Challant. The castle also hosts a chapel, lord’s room with painted oratories, the Baron’s hall and the Justice’s hall. In 1872 the castle was bought by artist Vittorio Avondo, who restored it and donated it to the State in 1907.

Avondo’s apartment

Starting from the autumn of 2018 on the first floor of the castle there is a new space dedicated to Vittorio Avondo, the illustrious owner of the Issogne manor.
Avondo was a great lover of the Middle ages, who restored it and aimed to revive its medieval spirit together with some artists and friends as Alfredo d’Andrade, Federico Pastoris and Giacosa brothers.
In one room visitor can admire the masterpiece of the painter Federico Pastoris “Ritorno di Terra Santa”, a huge painting set in the Issogne castle courtyard.

Guided tour of the Issogne Castle

During the Guided tour of the Issogne Castle we will visit the beautiful courtyard, the chapel, the rooms used by the Challant family and the Baron’s Hall.

Visitors to Issogne Castle can choose whether to follow the traditional tour itinerary or to extend it to Avondo’s apartment.
